Project RCD

Project SOE (Security in the Operational Environment) was an initiative which focused on security issues within the agricultural environment. It is now being replaced by Project RCD (Responsible Chemical Disposal).

A fundamental aspect of Project SOE was the safe disposal of redundant and unapproved pesticides and biocides. Phase one of the project was the establishment of a subsidised disposal scheme for unwanted pesticides and biocides.

The project was initially funded by the Government and offered subsidised collection and disposal. This funding was quickly exhausted and all collections under the subsidised scheme have now been dealt with.

As the first phase of the project was so successful with nearly 1,000 stores being cleared of 40 metric tons of redundant and unapproved pesticides, it was decided to continue the collection and disposal scheme.

Applicants who did not qualify for the subsidised phase of the scheme were offered the chance to dispose of their unwanted pesticides at a favourable commercial rate of £4.50 per kilo or litre.

To date, a further 33.3 metric tons of unwanted pesticides have already been collected or are currently being collected.

The Government sponsored Project SOE is now being ended but Killgerm Chemicals, who administered the original project, has now set up Project RCD (Responsible Chemical Disposal) to take over responsibility for the continued collection and disposal of redundant chemicals.

All chemicals not yet collected under Project SOE and all arrangements previously made will be carried out by Killgerm under the new project on identical terms. Persons who have already registered under Project SOE will not need to do anything. All applications are being dealt with as before. Killgerm will be advising them of the change via email to the address used in the application.

All collections and disposals meet Environment Agency requirements and the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 will protect anyone registering.

Those wishing to receive a quote for disposal of unwanted chemicals can register HERE or login HERE and submit a list for disposal. Applicants will then be sent a quote via email with instructions of what steps to take next. Payment is required in advance of collection. Timescale of collection will be dependent on number of applicants in the area.

Project RCD is administered by Killgerm Chemicals Limited, Wakefield Road, Ossett, West Yorkshire, WF5 9NB. Tel: 01924 268400.
